Description

Free-spirited and irrepressible, Anne Shirley has a beautiful way of looking at the world. In this third volume of the Anne of Green Gables series, Anne dreams of the woman she hopes to be when she decides to leave her beloved Prince Edward Island for college. She is eager for new adventure, but faces difficult choices involving her secret aspirations to be a writer and her hopes of finding the right person to marry.

Homesickness and a grumpy old math professor cause Anne to doubt she should be a Redmond College coed. And when Anne is the recipient of unexpected marriage proposals from the most unlikely young men, she may shock friends and Islanders alike with her decision. Then, when tragedy strikes, Anne learns a valuable lesson that prepares her to make the most important choice of all.

Reviews

AudioFile Magazine...
In this third book in the renowned series about orphaned Anne Shirley, the heroine leaves Avonlea and begins Redmond College. Just as Anne remarks about the evening sunset and its magic, so this book is about the "moments of transformation" in her own life--from schoolmistress to college student, from Green Gables to Patty's Place, and from comrade to friend to love. Susan O'Malley sets a brisk pace to her narration. Once the listener becomes attuned, the details of Anne's college years unfold rapidly. The girlishness of the younger women is fresh and eager; the gossip of the older women is clipped yet incisive. Personalities emerge--Aunt Jamesina is dear and endearing, the owners of Patty's Place are eccentric, Gilbert is hurt yet true, and Anne is both distressed and exuberant. This recording is a treat.
